All Flesh Must Be Eaten is the title of an RPG by Eden Studios. The game is a toolkit for the GM desiring to run a game of Survival Horror, providing a simple 'build-your-own-zombie' system and providing a number of example game worlds pitting the PCs against the undead hordes. However, we aren't interested in the game... we're interested in the chocolate.

All Flesh Must Be Eaten's ETA was last October. Those who bought the game online direct from Eden Studios were supposed to receive a special bonus in the form of a free chocolate bar. I decided not to purchase the game at that time, and it was probably good that I held off, as certain production problems delayed the release of the game until this February. Recently, I visited the local game shop, spotted the book on the racks, and after perusing it for a few minutes, knew I had to buy it. Surprisingly enough, the cashier also handed me a candy bar!

Restraining my cravings for the consumption of chocolatey flesh until I returned home, I ripped into the candy bar, devouring it in the span of but a few seconds. I was quite satisfied with the experience.

All Flesh Must Be Eaten: The Candy Bar has a nice heft to it... somewhat stockier in proportions than a typical Hershey Bar, and pleasantly thick. The paper wrapper is decorated with the All Flesh Must Be Eaten logo, as well as a number of hungry-looking zombies. As I ripped through this first barrier to the satisfaction of my carnal desires, next I found a foil wrapper. Real foil, not that nasty paper with one shiny side crap. That's a touch of class. Shiny on one side, turquoise on the other. Easy to rip through, too.

Before ripping through the foil, I paused to engage in a small ritual which I perform prior to consuming certain candy bars. Exerting pressure through the foil, I broke the bar at all the creases. All Flesh Must Be Eaten is creased in a 3 by 5 pattern, with the middle three blocks being really small. Having made my ritual obeisances to the gods Nestlé and Hershey, I tore through the final barrier.

What I found was a broken mass of white chocolate, sparsely strewn with puffed rice. I was somewhat dismayed... I'm not a big fan of white chocolate. Nevertheless, I gamely began shoveling the chocolate bits into my slavering maw, and was pleasantly surprised. The chocolate was good quality, with a low wax content (in case you were wondering, other candy bars, such as Hershey's, put a lot of edible wax into the chocolate, which can be detected by observing how 'stiff' and brittle the chocolate bar is. Higher quality chocolate has less wax, and is correspondingly softer and more pliable).

I should note that I am a big fan of Hershey's Krackle candy bars. However, these are basically piles of puffed rice held together by chocolate, so what you get is mostly air. Comparing the two, you get much more chocolate in the All Flesh Must Be Eaten bar, although somewhat less actual 'crunch'.

To summarize, the All Flesh Must Be Eaten bar is a fairly substantial, attractively packaged white chocolate candy bar with a little puffed rice thrown in for crunch. Pretty good on its own, and considering that it was free, it's worth a high rating.

If I were to improve the product, I would switch to brown chocolate, and add chopped walnuts or almonds in addition to the puffed rice. That would add 'crunch' to the bar without unnecessary airspace, and would be more high-class than adding peanuts, alá Mr. Goodbar. For even higher marks, I wonder if it's possible to produce a chocolate bar with the physical appearance of raw meat? A nice dark red with a little white marbling... hmm...

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
